County drive to find foster carers

Could you provide a healthy happy home for children and young people?

Could you offer support and guidance when they need it most?

If so then come along and speak to East Sussex County Council's fostering team at two events to be held next month.

As part of a drive to find more foster carers across the county the fostering team is holding two information days to give out information about the different types of fostering as well as short breaks for disabled children.

On Wednesday July 8 there will be an event in Seaford at Downs Leisure Centre, Sutton Road, between 11am and 2pm and at The Wellington, 33, Steyne Road Seaford, between 6.30pm and 8pm.

Potential carers will be able to talk to local foster carers to find out first-hand what fostering means to them. Members of the fostering team will also be on hand to explain what you would need to become a foster carer.

On Saturday July 11 the team will have a stand in Warrior Square at the St Leonards Festival between 11am and 5pm. On the day they will be specifically looking for people to foster children from black or minority ethnic backgrounds. More than 50 children from dual and diverse heritage are fostered in the county every year and the County Council welcomes enquiries from people of all cultures.

Penny, an East Sussex foster carer, said: "What do we love about fostering? It's about the changes we see in the children as they get more settled, make friends of their own and seeing them grow and develop so they are in a better position when they leave."
