Man, 70, violently assaulted in Hastings town centre

Police are investigating after a 70-year-old local man suffered head injuries in a late-night assault.

At about 10.15pm on Monday (June 1), police and ambulance crews were called to Priory Meadow in the town centre after a report of a violent assault that had left the victim unconscious, police said.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have heard a disturbance in the area around the time, to get in touch.

A police spokesman said: "A 19-year-old man from Hastings was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and after being interviewed was released on conditional bail while enquiries continue."
