Person charged after Butlin's brawl ends in man's death

A man has been charged after a fight at Butlin's ended when a man died after being punched in the head.

Police investigate the incident which occurred in a bar area of the holiday resort just before midnight on June 14.

Michael Loughlin, 52, from Barton-le-Clay in Bedford suffered a punch to the head and sadly later died of his injuries at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Billy Mongey, 32, of Tooting Grove in Wandsworth has been charged with manslaughter, according to Sussex Police.

Mongey will appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (May 14).

Speaking at the time of the incident, senior investigating officer, detective chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme of the Major Crime Team said: “A fight at a holiday park, which involved several people, sadly resulted in the death of a man.

"The bar was very busy at the time of the assault and we believe many of those present would have witnessed the assault and the aftermath."
