Demand for action now on A27 upgrade in Bognor

Unanimous backing from councillors within Arun District Council has been given to a motion demanding urgent action on A27 upgrades.

At a state-of-the-district meeting last week it was agreed the

government should be lobbied on badly-needed road infrastructure upgrades.

The motion from council leader Gillian Brown comes amid plans

for a number of major building plans in the district including 2,500 homes planned for Chalcraft Lane and St Modwen's regeneration plans

for Bognor.

Her request for urgent government intervention called for plans to be drawn up to redress a 'serious infrastructure deficit' which has been evidenced by a complete lack of progress on improvement to the A27.

Its surrounding link roads including the A259 have also suffered traffic chaos in recent years as commuters struggle to exit the town each day.

Bognor presently has a total of 12,000 vehicle movements per day which the surrounding road system is ill-equiped to handle.

Councillor Brown said: "We just cannot be expected to build thousands of new homes without the accompanying infrastructure. If we do not get the infrastructure we need, the answer must be no."
