Display is planned to show life of Bognor Regis youth and community centre

A display is planned to show the life of a Bognor Regis club during the past seven decades.

Former members of the town's youth and community centre in Westloats Lane have been asked to look out memorabilia regarding their time at the popular building.

Their reminiscences, newspaper cuttings and photographs will play a large role in bringing the centre's past to life.

The display is intended to be one of the features of this year's revived Bognor Regis community town show on August 22.

The centre '“ opposite the Hampshire Avenue recreation ground '“ was opened in 1938 by the Duke of Gloucester as Westloats Lane Boys' Club.

Carol Fullick, of Bognor Community Action Network, said: "We know there are many local people who have photographs and lots of information about the boys' club and, later, the youth and community centre including the area around the recreation ground. We are asking people to have a look in their cupboards and see what they can find."

She would like to hear from anyone who has an item about the centre they would be willing to lend, or display themselves at the show.

She has asked people to copy any photographs or articles and take these into the centre for her attention. Original material will not be displayed because the exhibition will not be staffed.

The show '“ between 11am-5pm '“ is the third to be held on the recreation

ground by Bognor CAN, Bognor Regis Town Council and Bognor Regis Horticultural Society.

Its attractions will include a range of homegrown fruit and vegetables, homemade jams, pickles, cakes and biscuits, and handicrafts in the main marquee.

Lots of workshops and fun activities will also ensure plenty for the whole family to enjoy. The attractions will include a bouncy castle, car boot sale and quad bikes.
