Dog group celebrates a decade of training

FOURTEEN well-behaved dogs and their owners gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Lancing Canine Obedience Group.

Animals from four-month-old puppies to six-year-old dogs met last Saturday to celebrate the group, which was formed on October 2, 1996.

The group is run by Brenda Redford and daughter Sara, who took over the Shoreham-by-Sea Dog Training Club, which started in 1965.

Brenda said: "If it hadn't been for the people who started Shoreham, we probably wouldn't exist, so a big thank- you to them.

"Sara and I started training our own dogs with Shoreham and then, as the retirements came along, we became more and more involved with the training of owners and their dogs."

For eight years, the group met at the Scout hut, in Manor Road, Lancing, before moving to the Lions hall, in Roberts Road, Lancing, and Brenda thanked Tom Smith and the Lions for their help.

She thought the celebration was a great success: "It was absolutely brilliant. All the dogs were stars. They had never all been together like that."
