East Preston pensioner taken to hospital after beanbag accident

A 92-year-old woman needed hospital treatment after a microwavable beanbag exploded.

East Preston fire crews were called to Sea Road, East Preston, at 7.50am on Saturday, after the aromatherapy product had been put into the microwave for too long, causing a fire.

The woman was given oxygen, and taken to Worthing Hospital as a precaution.

Crew commander Terry Matthews said: "I would advice anyone using such bean bags to always check and follow the instructions. They can, in some circumstances, get very hot and explode."
