ECO-PAVILION APPEAL LAUNCH

LEWES District Council chairman Marina Pepper hosted a reception at Lewes Town Hall to launch the Lewes Railway Land pavilion appeal.

The pioneering 700,000 centre will be named after the late Peter Linklater, a Lewes resident who led the Friends of Lewes for 45 years and was a supporter of the Lewes Railway Land Wildlife Trust.

Said Trust chairman Dr John Parry: 'We live in extraordinary times and Lewes is uniquely placed to host an innovative centre like this.

'It will enable us, the people of Lewes and many others, to comprehend and respond to the huge natural movements re-making the world today.'

The reception was attended by the Trust's patrons Lord Healey and Professor Ivor Goodson.

The pavilion will be constructed to the highest environmental standards and built on stilts with the ground floor secured by shutters which would be raised in times of flood.
