Last chance to give your flood risk views

A public consultation on the ‘West Sussex Local Flood Risk Management Strategy’ will end on that date.

It is the first flood risk management strategy drawn up for West Sussex since the County Council became the lead authority for flooding in 2010.

The strategy will guide engineers on how to prioritise where money should be invested to minimise flood risks for local communities.

It sets out how the County Council will work alongside the Environment Agency, Southern Water, Internal Drainage Boards, the Highways Agency and district and borough councils to manage flood risk – and what each authorities’ roles and responsibilities are.

A future programme of work has also been drawn up.

The document considers:

• What is flood risk?

• Where is flood risk within West Sussex?

• What should we invest in?

• Where should we invest?

• What should be done first?

• Who should maintain and pay for what we build?

The strategy will help the County Council achieve its goal of making communities in West Sussex better prepared and more resilient to extreme weather.
