The cranefly problem persists on the grasses. After consulting experts, John has found that he has to wait until next spring before he can spray for leatherjackets.

Fair enough, You do have to givre them time to hatch out after the craneflies have laid their eggs. Apparantly the leather jackets do not pose any significant problem until then to newly sown pasture.

They eat the roots of the grass and can pose a very expensive threat to grass.
