Mrs Down's Diary

In the last three days, three calves have been born in the suckling herd. John is delighted. All have been trouble free births and the calves are drinking well from their mums and finding their feet in the foldyard and place in the heifer hierarchy.

The cows get very excited whenver a calf is born in their midst. All of the cows and heifers should be in calf so they will be thinking ( if that's what they do) 'me next, me next'. In the confines of the fold yard there is little preivacy and so each birth is a public event.
