Ex-Stranglers frontman backing Rox

Rox 2008 headliner Hugh Cornwell has joined the growing list of patrons who support the Bognor Regis-based charity.

Hugh said: "Over the years, I've played at many festivals and the way this one has been run is on a par with most of them.

"The way it features so many unsigned and local bands is really good, but the fact it is completely free is unique and is something the town should be proud of."

The former Stranglers frontman agreed to become a patron when he learned of the charity's other plans and activities '“ which include launching a music academy with the University of Chichester to change lives through music and the arts. He offered his support wherever possible.

Hugh and his band played an energetic set as this year's Rox closed with tracks from his new album Hooverdam cleverly mixed with classic songs from the Stranglers throughout, much to the delight of the huge crowd in the arena at the Royal Norfolk Hotel.

He joins the likes of Jerry Springer as a patron of the music and arts organisation.
