Extra crossing is wanted

A CALL has been made for an extra pedestrian crossing on a busy North Bersted road.

Parish councillors have said they would like to see a another of the safety features installed on Rowan Way.

At present, highways officers at West Sussex County Council have proposed a single crossing around Markfield.

But Cllr Gez Watson said that was too remote for anyone who lived at the other end of Rowan Way.

Cllr Watson, who also chairs the Trees Estate Residents’ Association, said: “That is a long way from the Ash Grove area for anyone wanting to cross over the road. They would have to cross six roads to get to the crossing and back again.”

Patrick Hastings, the council’s chairman, said: “That road will still be very busy with traffic from west Bognor, Aldwick and Pagham going to the relief road.

“There is a case for having both crossings and we will highlight that.”

Council clerk Fiona Dobbs said it was important to keep raising the matter.
