Fighting for peace and quiet

The fight to safeguard the tranquillity of the English countryside enters a new phase this week

The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) will publish new, detailed maps charting England's tranquil places and John Penrose MP will present a Bill calling on the Government to measure tranquillity systematically and secure it for future generations.

Commenting on the CPRE campaign, Norman Baker,Liberal Democrat MP for Lewes, said 'We have gradually lost the peace and tranquility that used to be so common in our countryside. With it has gone our opportunity to enjoy fully what nature has to offer. I fully support this Bill. Let us reclaim the right to tranquillity'.
