Year 11 students heard from former Helenswood students from a diverse range of professional backgrounds, including technology, psychology, fashion, medicine and business to inspire them to achieve their full academic and professional potential.

Students received wristbands with the event’s hashtag, #greatgirlsgreatgoals, as mementoes of the day and a reminder to aspire towards high academic and professional aims ahead of their GCSE exams this summer.

The event was organised by Ark Helenswood Academy’s Head Girl, Febienne Fuller, and Future First, a charity which works to increase social mobility by building alumni communities around state schools to inspire and inform young people about their futures.

Febienne Fuller said: “One of the things I wanted to achieve as Head Girl was an event for International Women’s Day where we brought inspiring former Helenswood girls into the school to show our Year 11 students what can be achieved after school.”

In total, seven former Helenswood students spoke at the event, one for each year 11 form group. Ark Helenswood Principal Lucy Monk said:

“It’s through events like this that our students inspire, achieve and excel, so they can realise their dreams.”
