Free NHS health checks in Mid Sussex

New Year is traditionally a time for taking stock, setting goals and making a fresh start.

For many local residents, improving their health will be a key resolution in 2014 and the Mid Sussex Wellbeing team is keen to help by offering some free NHS health check sessions.

A quick 30-minute check lets people know how healthy they are and experts can then use the information to provide health advice that will help get residents on the right track for 2014.

The checks are carried out by registered nurses and are open to people aged between 40 and 74 years old as long as they are not on medication for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, cholesterol or kidney disease.

Everybody who takes part will receive a blood pressure check, a cholesterol measurement, and will have their BMI (Body Mass Index) calculated by measuring height and weight. After the health check there will be an opportunity to discuss the results with a trained Wellbeing Advisor, who will provide personalised advice on how to lower the risk of future problems and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The free health checks are by appointment only and slots are available from 10am. The sessions, which are organised through a partnership with NHS Sussex, Mid Sussex Wellbeing and Health Smart, will be held at:

Mid Sussex District Council, Haywards Heath on Thursday, January 9 and Burgess Hill Help Point on Monday, March 10.
