Fresh hope in bid to save ancient trees

NEW hope has been given to all those fighting to stop the destruction of more than 200 trees at Titnore Lane in West Durrington.

NEW hope has been given to all those fighting to stop the destruction of more than 200 trees at Titnore Lane in West Durrington.

Highways experts at West Sussex County Council have looked at new Government guidance and have advised that the council is able to review the need to carry out the road straightening which would have necessitated the removal of the trees.

The move follows tree-top protests from the 'Protect Our Woodland' group and a legal challenge from The Worthing Society which discovered, some months ago, that incorrect advice about Titnore Lane had been given by West Sussex County Council to Worthing Borough Council.

This in turn led to the society's solicitor issuing a legal challenge to stop the impending destruction.
