Fresh hope in parking battle

THE people of Seaford are one step closer to winning their fight with East Sussex County Council over changes to the town's parking regime.

County councillors agreed to look at alternative proposals from Seaford Town Council and the chamber of commerce.

The county council had suggested controlled parking zones which would include meters and residential parking permits.

This caused uproar in Seaford and the town council and the chamber vowed to fight the proposals.

The two bodies joined forces and came up with a list of alternatives which included keeping the existing restrictions almost as they are but reducing waiting times in the town and introducing a red zone in Broad Street. The red zone would mean no parking for anyone, including blue badge holders.

Cllr Matthew Lock, lead cabinet member for transport and environment, said: 'The recent consultation has stimulated a great deal of comment and a heavy postbag.

'We take these comments and letters seriously and will allow extra time for them to be analysed thoroughly and for additional discussions to take place with interested parties.'
