Fruity charity event raises £200

KIND hearted, health conscious construction workers presented a cheque for £200 to local spina bifida and hydrocephalus charity SASBAH.

The Kier Longley site team, who are building a new 38 million school at Bexhill High, presented the cheque in time for Christmas, after raising funds in support of the cause by selling fruit to staff.

The charitable fundraising came about after Kier Longley director Colin Baker introduced a scheme in which free fruit was provided for all site staff to promote healthy living.

The fruit for charity initiative was created at the Bexhill High site as a way of donating money to a good cause if people wished to pay a small contribution for their fruit instead.

The Kier Longley team embraced the scheme and the money was collected by Chloe Mears from the site's catering team.

The cheque was presented to Claire Bryant of SASBAH who said:

"I would like to extend my thanks on behalf of SASBAH to all those involved in this fundraising activity.

"I look forward to SASBAH and Kier continuing this relationship and working together in the future."

SASBAH (Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus) was formed in 1965 in response to the growing demand in Sussex for support services for those with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

The charity has a team of advisers who provide information, advice, support and advocacy for people with either of the conditions and their families.

The success of the fruit for charity initiative has inspired the Bexhill site team to continue the charity work and the company plans to raise enough funds for another donation later in 2010.
