Fun and Christmas Capers in Robertsbridge village

A host of local businesses will open their doors until late for the Robertsbridge Christmas Capers event, plus there will be family street entertainment and plenty of carols to enjoy during the course of the evening.

The fun kicks off at 4.30pm with a performance of panto favourite Dick Whittington at the Robertsbridge Club, thanks to the generosity of the Robertsbridge Bonfire Society.

At 6pm the High Street will close and a host of colourful characters will be out in force to entertain the crowds.

The Snow Queen, with icicles hanging from her fingers, will roam the High Street, teetering on top of some stilts.

Meanwhile the Lantern Theatre Group will perform Nannie McPhee and the Spirit of Christmas Adventure at various locations, including outside the Ostrich, the Seven Stars and New Spice.

And the Hastings Pipe Band Scottish Pipers will be out and about playing some rousing tunes.

MC Ian Clark will be on hand to tell shoppers what is going on and where to visit.

At 6.30pm, Salehurst Primary School Choir will perform some Christmas carols inside the United Reformed Church, with the Rococo Choir taking their turn at 8pm.

Standing room only for parents and children, seating for disabled people and senior citizens.

There will be music and comedy to enjoy at the Ostrich at 8pm, while the George Inn will celebrate its sixth birthday with a knees-up at 9pm.

Santa will be in residence in his grotto at the Youth Centre throughout the course of the evening.

The centre will also be the location for the Tree of Love, with stars for the tree available to buy from the United Reformed Church.

And of course the Darvell Community will be selling their ever-popular pretzels from the Youth Centre.

There will be stalls selling a variety of festive fayre in the High Street, plus a number of residents will be manning stalls in their own homes in the High Street.

There will be a special treat for art-lovers as Martin Brockman’s willow sculptures will be on display.

The evening is being organised by the Robertsbridge Enterprise Group.

The High Street will be closed from Station Road to Abbey Mews from 6pm until 9pm.

* The Darvell Community in Robertsbridge will hold a Carol Evening tomorrow (Saturday) from 6.30pm.
