Games consoles and sporting gear for budding youth club

LEADERS of a recently formed youth club in Pebsham have thanked businesses and community members for the suppport which got their scheme off the ground.

Jeannie Prince and Louise Quinland started the Pebsham Chill Zone in February.

Since then, Tesco's in Ravenside, Rother District Council (RDC) and housing company Amicus Horizon have all dug deep to help the centre for 11-17 year olds.

Group leader Jeannie said: "Pebsham Chill Zone Youth Club would like to say a huge thank you to all who have supported them and enabled them to be successful."

Tesco gave 500 for an Xbox with games, a TV, beanbags and a chess set.

RDC crime reduction officer Thelma Blakeley also gave 500 for a Wii console and TV, and sporting equipment.

Amicus Horizon, which helped in February with a start-up grant, has now given a further grant of 3,000 to run activities including sign language, cooking and a graffitti workshop through the next year.

Nick Fox, manager at Tesco in Ravenside, said: "It's fantastic to see such energy in a new community project.

"As a local big business it's been a pleasure to offer some goods as they start up what I know will only be a huge success."
