Gatwick drug smuggler jailed

Border Force officers stopped Dennis Cyril Aubin in the “nothing to declare” channel after he arrived on a flight from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on December 6 2015.

A Border Force South spokesman said: “Officers searched his baggage and noticed an unusually thick base to a holdall. Tests showed that the holdall’s rubber bottom had been impregnated with approximately 1.36 kilos of cocaine. The drugs had an estimated street value of £80,000.”

Aubin pleaded guilty at Croydon Crown Court on Monday (March 14) and was sentenced to six years imprisonment.

Sue Young, director of Border Force South said: “This was an elaborate concealment and the smuggler had gone to tremendous lengths to disguise the drugs. Detections such as this are a real testament to Border Force officers’ expertise.

“Smugglers will always be developing new and more intricate methods to try to get their illegal products into the UK and it is the job of Border Force to stay one step ahead.

“Working with law enforcement colleagues like the NCA we are determined to do all we can to prevent drug trafficking and put those responsible behind bars.”
