Haywards Heath traffic light fault caused by road works

Long queues have been forming on South Road with drivers waiting longer than usual for the lights to change.

Motorists have also been forced to queue on the B2272 in Muster Green and Dolphin Road to get into the town during rush hour.

Alastair Oecken said: “I left the Haywards road junction at 9.04am last Saturday and departed the lights by Zizzi at 9.24am, a journey of maybe 700 yards that used to take 30 to 60 seconds.”

Mr Oecken questioned whether the ‘genius’ who implemented the changes has ‘seen the queue all the way down South Road’ or ‘witnessed the chaos caused following the changes’.

Andrew Richardson, @ar10642, tweeted: “Anyone know who I can complain to about the re phasing of the Haywards Heath traffic lights in the morning? It’s causing daily chaos.”

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council said:“The changes are due to damage caused to detection loops at each arm of the junction.

“This damage was caused by resurfacing works,” he continued.

“We are fixing this by having the detection loops recut and I am waiting on confirmation of a start date for this to be done.

“It is anticipated it will take three days and temporary traffic management will be required.”
