Hearty effort by Worthing Hospital

PATIENTS with suspected heart problems are being seen quicker at Worthing Hospital's cardiac unit.

Waiting times for a echocardiogram have been cut dramatically following the investment of 200,000 worth of extra equipment and new staff initiatives.

Less than six months ago, there were more than 700 patients waiting up to 20 weeks for an appointment following referral by their GP or out-patient consultant.

Now, around 65 people are waiting between eight and 10 weeks.

The unit now has two new echocardiogram machines including a mobile unit which can been taken to the patient on the ward.
