Help to shape thefuture of coast

Rother District Council, along with Natural England and Shepway District Council, are carrying out a survey on the Dungeness Peninsular, which includes Rye Harbour and Camber.

Rother says the area enjoys international protection due to its geography and rich wildlife, and is vital to the local economy, attracting many visitors.

The survey is intended to help the authorities understand more about how people use the area and to plan for how it can be protected in the future, given the increasing number of visitors and people moving to the area.

In Rother, the area covered includes Rye Harbour, Winchelsea and Rye beaches, Camber dunes and beach and Broomhill Sands, while in Shepway it includes Dungeness, Lydd-on-Sea, Littlestone-on-Sea and Romney.

A Rother Council spokesperson said: “We want to help ensure that people can enjoy themselves and that nature continues to thrive.”

The authorities are particularly interested in the views of people who participate in activities in the area, including dog walkers, ramblers, kite surfers and anglers.

The survey will run until April 2015 and ask people about sites in the area that they visit regularly.
