Helpers needed for planting

Volunteers are needed to help plant 200 metres of native hedges on the Bersted Brooks.

The work on the North Bersted site will take place between 10.15am and 12.30pm on December 7 and 15.

Arun District Council staff, the Bersted tree wardens and the Friends of Bersted Brooks would welcome help on those days.

The hedges are a distinct part of the project at Bersted Brooks following the planting of thousands of trees by helpers last winter.

A new wildlife sanctuary will be created by the hedges in one corner of the Brooks for birds and creatures living around the temporary pond that has been installed on the 11 acre site north of Rowan Way.

Arun's community parks officer Daphne Fisher said: 'This has been a really great project that has been well supported by the community.'

Spades and gloves will be provided. It is hoped two information boards about the wildlife at the Brooks will be unveiled on December 7.
