Hundreds of homes in Rustington left without water after pipe burst

HUNDREDS of homes in Rustington were left without running water this morning (Thursday, January 26) after a water main in the village burst.

The burst, which also affected the water supply to a small number of homes in Littlehampton, occurred at about 5.30am, in Worthing Road, between Hollyhock Way and The Poplars.

Repair crews from Southern Water, are currently at the scene, with a spokeswoman for the company adding that engineers are currently installing a new section of pipe and that supplies should be restored to all affected homes in about an hour.

The spokeswoman said that Southern Water apologised for any inconvenience caused by the damaged, underground pipe and that “several hundred” homes had been affected.

She said: “We’ve had 123 calls from customers to report no water but supplies are gradually being restored as water pressure increases.

“It is our priority to make the repair and restore all supplies as quickly as possible and we hope this will happen before the end of the day, although it is difficult to provide a precise time.

“When the repair is completed and the water pressure is returned to normal, customers may notice some discolouration in their water. This is caused by harmless deposits that can build up in iron pipes and can be solved by running the tap until the water turns clear.”
