Tomorrow, Saturday April 6, Icklesham Horticultural Society has it Spring Sow in the memorial hall. The classes - Spring bulbs, mixed flowers, rooted plants, cookery, home made compost and arts and crafts are the same and seeing the prize entries and having tea and a cake is always great

The challenge for the contributors could not be a greater contrast than 2012. For plants growth starts at 6 degrees centigrade and at the time of writing that threshold has been rare.

Britain has unpredictable weather patterns and not a certain climate.

The temporary fences have gone. The play area is open.

The official opening will be on Saturday August 3 when Icklesham Fete combines with the Horticultural Society’s Summer Show.

The weather is still having an adverse effect on the season with further postponements and only ten matches having been played in total by both teams this year.

Recent results saw the 1St team pick up a point in a 1-1 draw away to Little Chelsea thanks to an 18- yard screamer from Alfie Weller to equalise. The following Saturday two more Alfie Weller goals and one from Rob Levett gave the side a 3-0 victory over Northiam ‘75. An excellent 8-3 win against second place Hastings Rangers at the Recreation Ground was then achieved with Rob Levett striking four times, Alfie Weller twice with one goal each from Justin Wall and Val Newman.

The side then lost a closely fought game with Windsor 1-0 with the winning goal coming from the penalty spot ten minutes from time before gaining a point from a 3-3 draw away to Herstmonceux. The goals were scored by Phil Badrock, Rob Levett and Alfie Weller, It could have been worse but for a fine 90th minute penalty save from goalkeeper Shane Ridgers.

The 2nd team went out of the Hastings F.A. Lower Divisions Cup losing 4-3 to Orington II despite leading 2-1 at half-time. Nick Bellhouse, Jimmy MeGachy and Paul Danids regtvrcd-fm-tfrv-ca.uws. A heavy 7-2 defeat was suffered against league leaders Bexhill Athletic II with Ben Eighteen and Ollie Beaumont getting the consolation goals. Another Ollie Beaumont strike plus one each from Nick Bellhouse and Dan Russell then gave the team a deserved 3-1 win over Wittersham II which could have been by a wider margin with numerous other chances missed.

The first of Kate Mylrea’s 20013 charity dinners raising funds for Breast Cancer Care is on Saturday April 20 at 7pm for 7.30pm at Manor Farm Oast. The second date is may 18. The menu is:

Icklesham Players’ next production is fast approaching. It is ‘The Canterwlle Ghost’, a musical version of the Oscar Wilde short story written and directed by Janet Kates, The plot tells the story of n American family who move into a stately home owned by Lord Canterville which has a resident ghost. He is the spirit of a wicked 17th century Earl who murdered his wife because she was so ugly. He has a servant ghost who may remind you of a figure from Blackadder and he is constantly frustrated because the Americans just do not believe in him and will not be frightened. With lots of laughs and fun and lovely songs it is a production not to be missed.

It runs for 4 performances, 18th, 19th and 20th of April at 7.30.pm and a matinee on the Saturday at 3.pm. Tickets are £6.50 for adults and £4.50 for children and are available from the Icklesham Village Shop or you can reserve by calling 01424 812996.

Wednesday April 3, Queen’s head quiz night if from 8.30pm. Teams of up to 6. £2 per entry.

Saturday April 13 from 10am to noon, The Five Villages House Social Club has a bric-a-brac sale and coffee morning. Everybody is welcome.
