Earlier in the month, however, sunny conditions had sent the temperature up to a peak of 18.7C/65.6F on the 12th.

The wide range led to the average temperatures for the month at 15.2C maximum and 8.2C minimum ending up close to the respective seasonal averages of 14.4C and 9.1C.

The warmth was the result of the sun shining on 26 days of the month to take the total number of hours to 158.5 to easily beat the 127.9 hours average for the month.

Rainfall, unsurprisingly, was well down on the expected amount. The 59.4mm total was much lower than the monthly average of 83.6mm. Wettest day of the month was the 4th with 18.8mm/0.74in of rain.
