Jo Jingles with Emma

Jo Jingles means music and movement for mums and tots to enjoy together.

Sessions are being held at Little Common Methodist Church and organiser Emma Kennedy is currently welcoming newcomers to her Monday morning sessions.

She has places available for babies from six months to two years old to join in the 9.30-10.15 session with their mums.

This is followed by a session for 2/3 year olds from 10.30-11.15, and in the afternoon 3/5 year olds have their fun from 1.30-2.15pm.

Emma has been running Jo Jingles in Little Common since January 2006 having set up her first sessions in Eastbourne.

She became a fan of this style of music and movement when she was living in Sydney and had a baby girl - her sister-in-law in Sevenoaks sent out a Jo Jingles CD for them to enjoy. Emma took her daughter along to classes but when she moved back to Britain could not find a local Jo Jingles to take part in - so she started her own.

"From a personal point of view, but also from feedback from mummies, I would say it is so good for speech, because of the repetition. It's about sitting there and singing some songs, and learning words.

"So many mums say it helps with speech, and with very shy children it helps a lot with confidence. My own daughter began playing piano before she was five, and I swear it is because I was into this whole music thing since she was a baby.

"But it is a lovely thing to sit and do - a really lovely activity for mums and children to have 45 minutes together.

"We sing and have a lot of fun - all based around my doll Jo Jingles."
