Kids torment Felpham woman over missing cat

A Felpham mother yesterday made a desperate plea for her family's missing cat after calls about his return proved to be sick hoaxes.

Kerry Garside and her two sons, aged six and nine, have had their hopes cruelly raised and dashed several times since they asked for help in finding their beloved Jammie.

They have put up scores of posters in recent weeks in Felpham, Middleton and Elmer urging residents to look for Jammie.

But the only result so far has been a series of hoax messages. Mrs Garside said: "I've had about four or five calls from young boys saying they've got Jammie and will be at a certain place with him.

"We've gone there only to find no-one around. Adults can deal with that kind of thing but it's not fair on two kiddies to do that. They are gutted by Jammie's disappearance."

Jammie, a ginger tom, has been a firm member of her family for six years after he joined them as a kitten. "He is a very friendly cat," said Mrs Garside (37), of Andrew Avenue. "It's very like Garfield, the cartoon cat '“ he's big and he's extremely friendly.

"He is a community cat. Everyone knows him. I don't know if he has become stuck somewhere like a shed or if he has wandered off with someone else."

Jamie was microchipped and wore a Very Important Pet collar.

Mrs Garside added she believed time was running out for his safe return.
