Last chance to sign Arundel lorry ban web petition

ARUNDEL councillor Paul Dendle is urging townspeople to back his online petition for a ban on heavy goods vehicles using Ford Road, Arundel and for a new footpath/cycleway along Ford Road.

The deadline for signing the petition on the West Sussex County Council website is tomorrow (Thursday, October 20) and Mr Dendle hopes there will be a late surge to add to the 137 people who have so far added their names.

He says: “Ford Road is a residential road, with a large amount of HGV traffic.

“By positioning a motion activated camera on the Ford Road fire station site, any lorry breaking the ban could be identified for prosecution by the police.

“Many schoolchildren cycle and walk to Ford railway station, and cars travel up to 70 miles per hour along this road, but there is no walkway or cycleway.”

Arundel Town Council has backed Arun councillor Mr Dendle’s call for a lorry ban and he says the district’s police commander, Chief Insp Jane Derrick has given her support in principle, as has Arun.

“We to demonstrate to the county council that there is community support for a traffic order to enable the ban,” said Mr Dendle.
