Littlehampton firefighters rewarded for Blockbuster rescue mission

GRATEFUL staff at a Littlehampton video store have thanked firefighters who put out a blaze at the store.

Blockbuster Video is now back in business at its Surrey Street shop, just five weeks after the fire, which destroyed all the stock. Re-fitting and re-stocking has cost an estimated 200,000, including the loss of trade.

To show their thanks, staff invited firefighters from Littlehampton to reopen the store on Saturday (November 15), and to make a collection for the Littlehampton-based Firefighters' Charity. Collection tins will remain in the shop for a while, and it's hoped a target of 1,000 will be reached.

Duty manager Troy Richards said: "We were very grateful for the firefighters' quick response at the time of the fire. They saved most of the store.

"We are very pleased with the refit. The store looks a lot better now, with a new layout and a bigger games section. We have been re-designated as a Blockbuster Game store."

Three neighbouring flats were evacuated and the Wimpey fast food outlet, next door, was cleared after the fire broke out in the early hours of October 9. A faulty fridge was blamed for the fire.
