Littlehampton house fire being treated as "suspicious"

A FIRE which saw a young family rescued from their Littlehampton home by firefighters is being treated as "suspicious" by police.

Witnesses are now being sought to the incident, which happened last Monday (November 3) at about 11.45pm.

Emergency services used a triple extension ladder to save five people, including a baby, a toddler and a 16-year-old girl, from their second-floor flat in Floyd's Corner, on the corner of Surrey Street and Pier Road.

Four other residents of the block were evacuated while the fire, which had broken out in the hallway of the flats, was fought.

A spokesman for Sussex police said: "The cause of the fire is being investigated, and is being treated as suspicious at this time.

"Anyone who witnessed what happened or who has any information is asked to contact Littlehampton CID on 0845 60 70 999."
