Measures to cure traffic problems

ACTION has been taken to alleviate traffic problems in the Midhurst and Petworth area, where problems have been caused by polo lorries, vehicles overtaking on country roads, and traffic in school zones and farm traffic.

Cowdray Estate has come up with an answer to the congestion caused by polo lorries around Ambersham, near Midhurst.

The estate is creating a new vehicle route on private land alongside the northern boundary of its polo fields.

It will run parallel to the Selham Road and additional passing places would be created opposite Selham Priory, where there is an existing field access and opposite Selham Church.

The improvements would be introduced before the start of the new polo season.

The polo lorries plan was among a range of road safety measures discussed by the county local committee for the area recently.

The first no overtaking zone in West Sussex has been proposed by North Chichester county local committee for a stretch of the A285 at Graffham
