Midhurst's Boots gets make-over

Whatever the reason, the chemist shop in North Street is finally getting a long-overdue make-over.

Meanwhile across the road in the former Parkland Cars premises on the corner of Lamberts Lane and North Street, more decoration and renovation work is taking place both inside and outside the Cowdray Estate-owned property.

On March 5 it is due to open as The Midhurst Pharmacy.

The business, formerly a Day Lewis chemist, which is currently based on Rumbolds Hill, was taken over by business partners Steve Peskett and Raj Rohilla in October.

Both men are pharmacists, with Raj owning an award-winning business in Battersea and Steve being a former manager of Boots the Chemists in Brighton.

“We identified Midhurst as a great place to open a pharmacy,” said Mr Peskett this week. “We also saw a great opportunity for us at the former Parkland Cars building.

Earlier this year Midhurst town councillors wrote to Boots about the state of its frontage after one councillors said it was a disgrace to the street.

Joan Pursley echoed the sentiments of other councillors when she said: “It is the worst window in the street.

“Upstairs there are rags hanging in the window and there is paint peeling off the walls.”

Last week decorators moved in and began the job of refurbishing the listed building.

A spokesman for Boots told the Observer: “Boots UK continues to invest in upgrading its stores to bring it in line with the current branding and look and feel.

“The improvements to the Boots store on North Street, Midhurst are a part of this upgrade programme.

“We pride ourselves in being able to provide all our customers in Midhurst with their health and beauty needs and will continue to remain a key retailer in the area.”
