More complaints with Pebsham house builders after lorry incident

An incident with a lorry which has left one resident feeling unsafe is the latest in a string of complaints about Pebsham house builders and their parking.

Jacqueline Orchard said she was rudely spoken to by one of the Barratt Homes workers at the Pebsham Lane development on Wednesday, February 24.

An articulated lorry was struggling to leave the site and caused a 20-minute traffic jam which no workmen did anything to fix, according to Ms Orchard.

She believes the ‘inconsiderate’ parking is worse than ever and does not feel safe around there.

“When some young man walked along in a hi-vis jacket, I told him the organisation of these works are a joke, and he said he was only doing his job and if he was me, I would stop complaining and start to reverse my car back as there was a lorry coming up,” she said.

“I said why should we have to back right up, we are a line of at least 15 cars, and a bus, he said either back up or the lorry goes over my car, my choice, lovely public relations.”

A number of people have complained about the amount of cars parked dangerously around the site and the mess caused by the muddy lorries.

A Barratt spokesman said space has been made onsite for people to park but no complaints have been made directly to them.

“We have not received any complaints from members of the public regarding parking issues since this space was made available and would urge anyone who spots a car driven by one of our staff parked dangerously outside the site to contact us directly straight away so we can investigate,” the spokesman said.

“In order to minimise mud on the roads our vehicles go through a wheel washing process before being guided out of the site.

“We strive to do this as quickly as possible and are looking into the complaint made regarding last Wednesday, which we thank the Bexhill Observer for passing on to us.

“Our aim is to minimise disruption to neighbours during construction and would urge anyone who has a complaint to contact us as soon as possible on 01483 505533 so we can investigate and take action if needed.”
