New development approved

A NEW development with nine houses and a disabled person's bungalow in Monks Avenue, Lancing, was approved on Monday.

Adur district council's planning committee approved the scheme which will see seven two-bedroom houses, two three-bedroom houses, with parking and an access road at Monks Farm Depot.

The site used to be home to a council depot, which was closed in the early 1990s. It was released by Adur Council as a site for affordable housing in July 2003.

The Southern Housing Group will be developing the site and building two pairs of semi-detached houses, and a terrace of three houses on the east side, and another pair of semi-detached houses and a detached bungalow on the west side.

The council received seven letters from people living nearby. Their concerns included the additional traffic the development would bring, the design of the buildings and the possible risk of flooding.

There were no objections from the Environment Agency in principle, but they were concerned about contanimation because of the site's history.

Southern Water did not object to the plans and Sussex Police said they had no serious concerns.
