Horticultural Society: Ken Turner will be talking to the Northiam Horticultural Society on Summer Colour in Northiam Village Hall today (Friday) at 2.30pm. All are welcome, with a visitors' charge of £2.

Craft Fayre: Just in time for Mothers’ Day, Northiam Bonfire Society will be holding one of their popular Craft Fayres in Northiam Village Hall on Saturday 5th March. There will be the expected range of local quality crafts, as well as a tombola, cake stall and the famous bacon rolls. Pop along for a browse between 10am and 2pm.

Women’s Fellowship: An interesting talk from a member of the Air Ambulance is promised for the Women’s Fellowship meeting on Tuesday. Meetings start at 2pm in the Church Centre, and are open to all.

Hist & Lit: Northiam & District Historical and Literary Society meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the winter months in Northiam Village Hall. For the final meeting this year (Spring must be here!) Heather Woodward will be describing the life and times of one of the most colourful socialites of the Edwardian period, Mrs Ronald Grevelle of Polesden Lacey. Meetings start at 7.30pm.

Footpath Walk: The Footpath Group will be heading to Matfield on Wednesday for a figure of eight walk from the rear of Matfield Green. Meet in Northiam surgery car park at 9.15am. The 7½ mile walk will be split with a pub lunch in Matfield.

Parish Council: The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Thursday 10th in the Jenkins Room at 7pm. The Village Action & Emergency Plans are being reviewed and updated. The Annual Parish Meeting will be on April 11th, when local clubs etc will be letting us know more about what’s on offer in Northiam.

Race Night: If you fancy a little flutter, then the Rose & Crown in Beckley is the place to be next Saturday (12th) when Northiam Bonfire Society will be holding their next Race Night. Local businesses have sponsored the races – horse “owners” will win £30 – and betting is 50p a time! Horses are on sale over the bar now, but horses in the final race (which will win £120!) will be auctioned just before it starts. We will be under starter’s orders from 7pm.

Boot Sale: The Village Hall Trust’s final Boot Sale of the year will be on Sunday 13th March at 9am. Call Marie Edwards, 01797 253264 for bookings or information.

Chitiwiri: Sally Bickersteth is collecting sunglasses (non-prescription) to take out to Malawi in March, and there will be another collection in aid of the feeding programme in Chitiwiri, which will be collected on 14th March. If you have any unwanted clothes, pairs of shoes, curtains, bed linen (not duvets), bags, belts, perfume etc and would like to donate them to help raise money for the community of Chitwiri, please put them in tied bin liners, or call at Forge House for green bags,. Call 0790 333 8614, or 252108 to arrange a convenient time to drop them off.

Showtimers: Showtimers are planning this year’s variety show which will take place in September. If you have a secret longing to discover your inner thespian, your village needs you! Call Geoff or Caroline (252918) if you would like to be a part of Showtimers. You don’t have to perform – there is always work to be done behind the scenes – technical, costume, front of house, marketing etc, and great fun to be had along the way.

Allotments: Ewhurst Parish Allotment Association’s allotment site, situated at Knowle Corner Wood, a beautiful area in Lordine Lane Ewhurst, has a couple of plots available for rent. The manageable plots measure 42’ x 22’ approximately and have a shed and water harvesting equipment to each.
