A deplorable idea

AS A Worthing resident, I am shocked that parts of the Downlands close to Cissbury Ring may be sold off.

Living in Findon Valley, I am particularly concerned, but this also affects all those people who enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside.

Every day I see cars parked at the top of Central Avenue, belonging to those who come from near and far to enjoy easy access to the unspoiled environment of the Downs.

What cast-iron guarantees can the council give that new owners will not fence off land, close footpaths and /or promote inappropriate development?

The whole purpose of the open access and National Trust areas would be negated.

I hope the council will soon come to its senses and abandon this deplorable idea.
