LETTER: Prioritise the danger roads

In Comptons Lane, Horsham during the last week householders have been treated to all the pavement crossovers (that bit from road across the pavement to the edge of driveways) being resurfaced.

Whilst I am not trained in the finer points of road surfaces, most of those crossovers appeared to be in perfectly good order. One or two had some cracks but all, irrespective of condition have been resurfaced. Thousands of pounds of expense most of it probably spent to ensure that all the crossovers matched.

About a mile away on Nuthurst Street on Saturday a cyclist hit a huge pothole and toppled off his bike, fortunately he was not injured.

This road is atrocious and dangerous. At the worst of the potholes - around three feet wide and 4-6 inches deep - an uneven road sign has been placed.

In these times of financial restraint would it not make sense for our councils to prioritise those parts of the highways which are not just aesthetically displeasing but represent a very real threat to the lives of road users?
