Children’s triathlon triumph

Sporting fever hit Storrington First School over the last two weeks as a Triathlon event rounded off the school’s annual sports days and swimming gala.

Overall 44 children from years 3-5 took part in the triathlon. The course for year 5 children included six laps of the school’s pool, eight cycle laps of the field and finished off with running four laps of the school playground.

Teacher Stephanie Downes who organised the event said: “The children all did brilliantly and the event was a great success. One of our parents, Steve Clough-Young, helped us on the day together with two of his friends – all three competed in triathlons for Team GB last year which the children were very impressed by!”

Children from Years 1 and 2 were able to watch the events and cheer the older children along. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to children from each year group at the end of the events.

Said Headteacher, Garry Smart: “The day was an incredible success and added to the success of our sports day and swimming gala held in June. Thanks should go to staff for their organisation and to all the parents who helped or came along to support these events.”
