Enjoyable concert

AN enjoyable concert was given at Littlehampton United Church on Saturday, September 24, as the 150th anniversary celebrations of the church continue to draw towards the close.

We heard several marches and arrangements of hymn tunes, a beautiful piece by the percussionist Evelyn Glennie, called Little Prayer, on the merimba, a brilliant cornet solo and a piece called Reflections in Nature.

We joined in Jerusalem as a true Last Night of the Proms audience would do, then heard O Magnum Mysterium, a Classic FM favourite. Sing, Sing, Sing featured some brilliant percussion playing by a bandsman training as a Royal Marines musician.

After listening to Gabrie’s Oboe, from the film The Mission, the concert came to a climax with Bach’s Toccata and Fugue.

The proceeds of the concert resulted in £130 being given to Mwokoeni children’s charity, which our church supports.
