Gesture shows that people do still care

THERE is an area in the old part of Rye cemetery that was reserved many years ago for babies and children.

Our daughter, Jane, is buried there and when I visited last week I noticed how well the grass had been cut, given the uneven ground, sunken and abandoned graves and overgrown edging stones.

When I got closer to Jane’s grave there was a solitary bluebell that had been left to flourish for a few more days, where the grass had been neatly cut around.

In these modern times where there is no respect and little compassion, I thought that was rather nice and showed that there are still people about who care.
