Left wanting more

I WAS interested to read the review by Jim Hurdwell of the organ recital at Arundel Cathedral, concluding Arundel Festival.

He stated that people wanted much more '” I think more for their money.

I did not consider this recital good value at 12. Prof Guy Bovet played three items plus an encore, very little more than one hour.

Is it worth calling upon someone so noted, just to give one recital of one hour?

On Wednesday last week, a small group of us visited Christchurch Priory in Dorset for the end-of-season organ recital by a well-known recitalist.

It was four times the value, a two-hour programme for 6, and very well-attended.

A similar group of us visited the Royal Albert Hall in July for a celebrity organ recital '” two hours, 10 minutes of music for 10.

Arundel Cathedral was by no means full for Prof Bovet '“ food for thought?
