Roadways are so vulnerable

WHILE I sympathise with the Highways Agency in needing to carry out this presumably essential work on the Arundel railway bridge, it highlights how vulnerable the local roadways infrastructure is around Arundel and surrounding area.

It is inconceivable that after so many years, apparently no further steps have been undertaken to connect the eastern and western sections of the A27 dual carriageway around Arundel, and, indeed, around Worthing.

The A27 is designated as a major trunk route, yet dual-carriageway traffic is still funnelled down to a single carriageway route around both these towns, placing enormous strain on the local roads and causing great inconvenience to drivers and residents alike.

The A27 traffic problems at Arundel and Worthing also severely impact upon surrounding villages both north and south of the route, where the traffic diverts in order to avoid delays.

Our government is happy to pay 39m gross per day for membership of the European Union.

Perhaps it would be better spent if invested in this country instead.
