Whilst the letters page is an important source of the views of local people and what they think, the disclaimer that anonymous letters are never printed now seems to be a bit of an anomaly.

I refer to the adjacent column ‘best of the web’.

Like the vast majority of your correspondents, I think it is not only courteous but part of a acknowledged transparent process to say if you are local and when expressing a point put your name to your views.

What seems like the now accepted practice of using pseudonyms makes it extremely difficult to counter an opinion from a camouflaged source of someone who is permitted anonymity and refuses to identify themselves.

On many occasions whilst inclined to do so I see little to be gained by challenging the views of a nom de guerre individual sniping from behind a symbolic balaclava.

Amongst others a case in point is the regular correspondent to your newspaper Sagittarius Rising who gives the impression of an unelected, self-appointed and misinformed guardian of the environment (and just about everything else ) whose views will sadly go unchallenged by those of us who believe in openness and transparency.

So why not come out of the closet Saggy if you have something to say and reveal yourself, it doesn’t hurt, then perhaps you can be taken seriously.
