Why not just go for a walk?

In reponse to Ms Saunter's letter (Observer, Friday, March 4), I note that she puts emphasis on the social aspects of shooting days.

You can meet all these wonderful people from all walks of life (with the exception of three-year-olds) running a marathon, for example.

To put it bluntly, shooting truly wild pheasants doesn’t strike me as social – killing is killing.

And to shoot specially raised pheasants (or any other game, for that matter) for syndicate or leisure shoots is nothing but ‘canned hunting’.

As for working from Monday to Friday, why not just go for a walk in the woods after work or rambling around the Sussex countryside at the weekend, enjoying nature without cruelty to other beings?
