OPPOSITION TO 200 HOMES SCHEME

Plans to build 200 homes and the first phase of a business park in Polegate have been opposed by the town council.

The land ear-marked for the development, to the north of Dittons Road, is part of a larger site designated by Wealden Dsitrict Council for a high quality business park.

But the Gladedale Group, which has applied for a mixed use, is arguing that without a residential component there is unlikely to be a start on the business park.

The land is on the north east edge of Polegate with its southern boundary adjoining existing residential development fronting Dittons Road. To the north is the A27 by-pass, to the west is an established row of trees and site of proposed residential development and to the east a mixture of trees and hedgerows and the remaining component of the proposed business park.

Currently most of the land is agricultural, used mainly for sheepgrazing. But the proposal also includes demolition of two homes, Gulfoss and Winfield Farm bungalow and some farm buildings. The site would also include part of two rear gardens of two other bungalows fronting Dittons Road, Ballenburg and Mecca.
