Pat takes a break

HAIRDRESSER Patricia Underhill will next month hang up her scissors after 32 years of loyal service to Lewes coiffure.

Patricia, who runs Dennis James Hairdressers in Neville Crescent, will be ditching the hair dye in order to devote more time to bringing up her 10-month-old daughter Mollie.

Patricia was just 12 when she started working as a Saturday girl at Dennis James' salon in Western Road, in 1970. She started her hairdressing apprenticeship four years later and by 1977 was working full-time for the business.

Just two years later, at the age of 20, Patricia was offered the chance to run the business and in 1986 moved the salon to its present location in Neville Crescent.

Patricia, who also has a two-year-old son Luke and a 15-year-old daughter Sophie, said: 'I'd like to thank my very loyal customers who have become great friends over the years. We have customers who have been coming since the first Dennis James Hairdressers opened in Cliffe High Street in 1967 and they remember me when I was 12!

'I'm sad to be going but in four years time, when my youngest daughter has started school, I'll be back and looking for employment!'
